A life update for anyone who reads the captions:
.
I have slowed my pace of living drastically, as one is wont to do after a move out of a big city. Some things are different. People wave at me when I walk around the neighborhood. It is actually possible to walk unobstructed around a neighborhood. There are trees, bodies of water, humidity. When I drive places, there is ample free parking and nothing is more than 20 minutes away. I wake to the sound of birds instead of traffic, or simply a peaceful silence. The silence was jarring for more than a few weeks. I’m still adjusting to the climate and the allergies are brutal.

Plenty of things are the same. Life is still full of choices, simply existing requires constant effort, I’m inhabiting a body that requires maintenance and care, and I never quite find the thing I’m looking for. Depending on the day, I either gracefully accept these facts or life or resist them with a stubbornness that would make my 2 year old nephew jealous.
.
As I am also wont to do, I had an incredibly emotional landing. Leaving LA felt like being shot out of the sky. In an uncharacteristic move for someone so focused on presence and mindfulness, I looked back and couldn’t look away. I was immediately reminded of the folly of such thoughts, but it was too late. It has taken me months to regain momentum and I have learned some very hard lessons.

I think it is human nature to take things for granted until they’re gone, and I realize that now more clearly than ever. I am so grateful for the time I spent in LA and the people who made it a home. I miss you all. I want to come back, but at the same time, I am probably taking my current circumstances for granted as well, being they are my current circumstances and not yet in the rear view. See how easily that happens? A lesson is being hammered into me: the grass is never greener on the other side, it’s greener where you water it
